If you have a glass shower or are thinking about installing one, keeping it clean is likely one of your top concerns, shower-wise. When it’s pristine, a glass shower immediately elevates your bathroom to spa-level luxury, but when it’s streaky and grimy, it makes the whole place look dingy and dirty. As shower glass providers, our team at Ocean Glass has several helpful tips for keeping your shower glass clean. What’s our top tip? You don’t need specialized cleaning products to clean your shower glass. You can use items that you already have in your home.
Keeping your shower glass clean is easier than you think. Shower glass providers recommend using products you already have in your home.
Vinegar
Using vinegar as a cleaning product is pretty common, but you might be surprised at how effective it is. To remove scum from your shower walls and doors, spray the glass with water first and then squeegee it away. Next, spray it with undiluted white vinegar, followed by another spray of water to remove soap scum and hard water deposits. Using vinegar also has another benefit: it gets rid of mold. Wipe down your shower with white vinegar as part of your regular cleaning routine to keep your shower mold and mildew-free.
Baking Soda
Staying in the area of kitchen items often used for cleaning, baking soda is also an effective glass cleaner. For tough stains that vinegar can’t shift, mix baking soda and water to make a runny paste and apply it with a cloth or sponge. With a little elbow grease, your baking soda paste should remove tougher soap scum or hard water stains.
Dryer Sheets
Did you know that dryer sheets can help remove buildup and stains on your shower? Use a dryer sheet to scrub tough stains on dry glass. The fabric softening product on the dryer sheet will help loosen the buildup. After you’ve done what you can with the dryer sheet, use water or vinegar and a squeegee to clean the glass.
WD-40
This one surprised even us, but it does work! If you have any particularly tough spots on your shower, spray dry or wet glass generously with WD-40. Wipe it away with a clean, dry towel to remove grime, soap scum, calcium deposits, and other buildup.
