Glass shower doors make your bathroom look bright and beautiful, but not when their cloudy and covered in stains. It’s almost impossible to prevent stains on your shower doors. Soap scum and hard water residue will build up over time. However, there are multiple ways to clean your shower doors, and you don’t need any specialized cleaning products. If you’ve recently installed new or replacement shower glass, you’ll appreciate these easy methods for keeping them clean and sparkling.
Vinegar and Dish Soap
A vinegar and dish soap solution is one of the most common methods for cleaning shower glass. All you need to do is heat one cup of distilled white vinegar in the microwave for 30 to 45 seconds. Pour the warmed vinegar into a spray bottle and add a few drops of dish soap. Start at the top of the shower door and spray the solution all over the glass. Let it sit for about five minutes so the solution can work. Next, scrub the door with a sponge, again from the top. Rinse the glass and dry it with a microfiber cloth to prevent streaks.
Lemon Juice
If you don’t want your bathroom to smell like vinegar, you can use warm water and lemon juice. Mix three tablespoons of lemon juice per cup of warm water in a spray bottle and spray the glass with it. Let the solution sit for five minutes and then dry with a microfiber cloth. Lemon juice is less acidic than vinegar, so you might have to use a little elbow grease to get stubborn stains out. If you have natural stone shower floors, don’t use this method, as the lemon juice can damage the stone.
WD-40
You might not have expected this one, but you can use WD-40 to clean glass. It’s especially effective on stubborn stains. Before you start, open the windows and doors. WD-40 contains strong chemicals, so the bathroom needs to be well-ventilated. Spray the WD-40 directly on the stains and let it sit for five to ten minutes. Wipe it away with a clean cloth and repeat until you’ve removed all the stains. Rinse the glass with water and dry it with a microfiber cloth.
